So I've decided to try breeding the turkeys I will be getting next weekend (a bourbon red and royal palm). But I'm not sure that I will have room for two mating pairs (since they would need their own runs). So my question is which breed do you think would be easier/better to sell? Wondering if people would be more interested in purchasing a meat bird or a decorative bird...There is a place about 2 hours away that has bourbon reds, but I have not really seen any royal palms, so maybe that would be the choice? I'm just afraid that people won't be that interested in buying an ornamental turkey. Thanks for any input!

Royal Palms arent selected/bred for meat production, but they can still be ate though.
It all depends on your local area. I know around here a ornamental turkey sells for more and faster then a commercial meat turkey.
I would go for Royal Palms

All of the heritage varieties including Royal Palm are good table birds. They have no wheres near the feed conversion ratio of a broad breasted but taste better and reproduce naturally. For the table the Midget white and Bourbon red have been rated in recent taste tests as the top two. All the heritage varieties are similar however and have more flavor than the broad breasted birds.

For selling poults or eggs find a very pretty variety that is not usually available. Check out porterturkeys.com or Sands for ideas.
