My boss has a very nice Thoroughbred mare which is built like a warmblood. I'm thinking of breeding her to a European stallion to get a riding horse for myself. I want a foal with looks, elegance & movement. The stallions should have refinement, wow movement & good looking, well placing offspring. I don't even know where to begin looking-there are so many nice stallions!
This is an example of the type that I like. He passed away last year unfortunately. I like a giant british riding pony type of look.

This is the mare. Don't bother critiquing her conformation, I just took some quick pasture pics & you know how they can make something look good or bad depending on the angle. These shots are just to give an idea of type. You can see why I want a refining influence.

Update:
I started riding her yesterday because I just had her shod & the stallion I ride isn't putting on weight well. If you've ever wondered what riding a 9 year old horse on the racetrack is like, wonder no more-I KNOW! Day one, I realized that she doesn't know how to walk. She has 2 paces-teeth grinding while sidewards jog or gallop. Put a lot of work into her & spent most of the ride leading her. Day two, spent almost all the ride in the saddle & at a walk, trotted a bit too. She has a lovely temperament, just needs a full retraining. Shouldn't take long, she's a fast learner. I'll start thinking of breeding her towards the end of the year.

"You say built like a warmblood" I thought tb were a warmblood horses?

Did you ever buy a horse a while back?

No, TBs are hot bloods like arabians. I am referring to the studbooks like KWPN etc anyway, not TB/carthorse crosses.
I almost bought the colt last year but at the last moment I decided to lease him & after a few months, decided not to buy him & moved from the area.

Are you looking at frozen semen then?

There are sooo many awesome warmblood studs available via frozen semen one can go bonkers. Is the second pictured horse Sandreo?

What are you looking for temperament wise?

Yes, frozen semen, I live in Israel.
Yeah, Sandreo is lovely isn't he? With so many choices, which do I choose??????
eta: temperament doesn't bother me, I'm an experienced rider who like spunky horses. I'm hoping for a colt foal to keep entire.

Also, although a good horse is never a bad color, I'd really like a bit of flash as this wont really be a competition horse. I don't want a tobiano & the mare is bay so a palomino foal ain't happening & I don't want buckskin so no Cremello stallions. No Knuppstruppers either :)
She's a plain bay mare (very hunter looking) so I'd like to breed her to something with a lot of white & a pretty face in hopes of at least a head marking & pretty head. Nothing like some markings to spice things up

LOLOL I know absolutely nothing about this type of horse. Having said that, I like the first horse (he's a "using" horse), dislike the 3rd horse (head and neck are too large for the rest of him), and am not impressed with the 2nd (nothing all that wrong with him--he's just bland).

It's always fun to "window shop", though!

I would stay away from the third stallion. Something about his knees, and tied in cannon bones. He didn't look balanced.

Now I like the first one and the second one as well. The second horse may not produce alot of white unless you can see his parents and the mare's parents to see if there are any white markings.

I, too, like to window shop too!

Weltmeyer is very accomplished as well are his sons. I've heard his frozen is excellent. He is chestnut, so probably no flash with a bay mare.

Sir Donnerhall is quite nice, very large star/blaze on his head, bay in color.

Rascalino is black with a blaze plus 4 white stockings. He goes back to the great Rubinstein

. Royal Olymp has some bling.

Cannavaro--I believe this horse has flash (which I think comes from Pilot)

Anyway, this is all I can come up with right now. Are you looking strictly for dressage?

If you think something is wrong with the third horse's knees, you can go on the KWPN website and see how his knees were evaluated, as well as his xrays, etc.

To produce a nice quality warmblood horse, the choice of stallion depends on the conformation and gaits and temperament of the mare, and her bloodlines. Some lines cross well with some and not other lines.

Without seeing the mare's type, conformation, seeing her move, knowing her temperament, and her blood lines, and knowing the same about the stallion, it's impossible to say which stallion would be a good match.

I would never breed a mare unless she was really, really exceptional, inspected, registered.

And I would only breed a maiden mare to a proven older stallion with a lot of offspring on the ground at various ages, so I could see a lot about what he produces when bred to various types of mares.
