I have three roos that are 12+ weeks old and I am trying to figure out which one to keep. One has a couple crooked toes which I think must have come from the crazy temps we had during the incubation... nonetheless I don't think I will want to breed with him. Then I have a roo that is red breasted rather than the usual black breast... I am guessing that this is not really desirable for breeding with - any input on that you Welsummer folks? Then there is a really pretty roo (main man of the coop) and the least skittish of the three. I have some pics for you to see the chestnut coloured one and the black breasted one - what do you think would be best for breeding with?

That is the red breasted one... and i have just seen that my pics of the black breasted one did not come out well at all. Will post one of them and go take a few more when DS is taking his nap...

He really wanted to take a nap and I kept on bugging him, they are all pretty hot with the temps up in the 90's. I have a big fan going so his feathers are rather ruffled looking in some of the shots...

You're kidding, right, Dave, old buddy? I pick the one most sociable with people. His instincts to protect the girls will still kick in when appropriate, I believe.
I can't see your roosters in the red boxes, but I asked a Welsummer breeder about the really dark colored ones, guess you'd call them mahogany. She told me the lighter ones, not the really dark ones, were more the proper color. Dont know if your black chested one is really dark overall-I had one that was extremely dark and gorgeous myself.

Nope. Well, sorta. But not entirely. "Aggression," the cock evil, is okay with me.

I have little doubt of what you say. Im not a rooster expert. I also have no small children or other worries.
But I want little doubt about his vigor, either. To me it is the overiding factor.
I dont believe that you can have your cake and eat it too, in this case. If you want the one, you expect the other.

So, he doesn't have to be my sociable busom buddy - he can just be himself. Remember, I've been influenced by many years association with gamers.
I know, Im weird.
