While Roosting...some chickens are getting pooped on--

While roosting at night..some of the chickens are getting pooped on (right on their backs)...
We have a high roost that has enough space for all 10 chickens, but some of them sit on a lower one too...is the easiest thing to do is just remove the lower roost? It is freezing outside in MN right now too..
Do I need to get the frozen poop off the back of the chicken? In the summer when this happened...I just used a warm rag and wiped it off...but now this is nearly impossible. Can I leave it since it's already frozen?

Maybe you should move the roosts farther apart. Nobody likes poopy chickens! Since you can't get the poo off, just leave it for now.

Some of mine do this same thing. I don't worry about it. I know that my usual response. But, I've never seen one of my chicks walking around with a frozen pile of poo on her back. If I didn't I would probably giggle. I couldn't get it off even if I tried. They don't like me picking them up. I figure if they don't mind I don't.
My girls don't even go outside right now. They haven't been out in weeks. chickens!!!

Move the lower roost further away.

That's why roosts have to be offset enough. Usually for lots of stacked roosts people make ladders so the lower ones are in front of the higher ones. Having a large coop I put the roosts next to each other so it goes high roost, low roost, high roost, low roost around the inside of the building. Some chickens might need the low roost to get to the high roost.
