Petal nodded, "Maybe you should eat? I'll have to talk to Heron, we probably need another hunting patrol." She walked out and over to Heron, "Sorry to bother you again but the prey pile is really low and the hunting patrol Meadow went on didn't find much. Should you organize another?"
Heron nodded. "That is a problem. Though I doubt you'll find more prey out there. It's almost the middle of Newleaf, and we still haven't found much." Heron sat on his haunches and puzzled.
"Perhaps we should try the lake...there likely aren't as many twolegs since it isn't terribly hot." A strong breeze whipped Heron's thin wispy fur as he spoke, and he shuddered.

“Yes. You can give them to him. I need to attend to Ice now.”

"I can hunt as well as the next hunter," Ice said. "I can double my duties. She licked her wounds and coughed.

"You'll need to heal a bit first. I don't think you'll do well, especially since the weather's still cold." Heron paused and then regained his thoughts.
"I'm trying to remember if you could fish," Heron said. "Grass taught me well...but I can't recall ever seeing you fish. But what do I know." Heron rolled his eyes and tapped his head with his paw.

"Well, I can do that, you know Mother can do everything, right?" Ice had only fished once, long before his birth, but she wasn't so bad at it either. She gave her head a haughty tilt and watched him. "Your pelt is disgracefully ruffled. Can't you bother to be careful of yourself?" Ice had never worried these things about Frog or Cherry or Grass, but being the leader and medicine cat, she always made sure her son Heron made himself a presentable character.
She never told him, but Heron was her pride, and Blue's legacy. After all, he had chosen the same position.
"Say, where is Cherry, dear?"

"Can I send out a patrol? I have a few cats who may be able to catch fish."

Though Heron knew petal was still a kit, he thought her the most mature kit he had ever met. He trusted her, as she was almost an apprentice.
“Sure. Make sure you know which cats can actually fish.”

Squirrel was sitting with his brother Flame when he was approached by Petal.
"Fish? You bet I can fish!!" Squirrel leapt into the air, his claws flying. He landed neatly and swiped the air as if to catch a fish, just like a grizzly bear.
"I leaned to fish a long time ago," Goldenrod mewed, staring in the opposite direction.

Petal purred, "Okay, Goldenrod, Squirrel, Fox, Frog, and Lichen go to hunt by the lake. Those of you who can fish catch as many as you can. The others should check in the trees and near the shore." Petal hoped she had found the right cats.
