Can someone help me with the color of this little guy? The parents hatched out a pir of chicks and this one is primarily white and silver with white cheek patches and black beak and the other is all buff with lighter buff cheek patches and a black beak.

Can't help you with your question but I wanted to say what a nice photo!

I'm not quite sure, and have to leave for school in a few minutes, but try looking at the site below to find out:

www.zebrafinch.com

That breeder has basically every mutation listed and pictured on his site.

Offhand, I'm wondering if that's the mature coloring of the bird (it doesn't appear to be). My best guess would be recessive silver, possibly with something else. How old is the bird? Do you have pics of the parents and sibling? I'll check back later.

:)

That is juvenile coloring. They will molt into adult plumage and their beaks will become red too. Just give them a few more weeks.

I don't know what "total white face" means other than possibly being a variation of Penguin. Check out the website I posted earlier, or google "zebra finch mutations" to find out what the parents are. I didn't realize this was still a baby, but wondered that having seen the dark beak. Do you have pics of the parents?

:)

Hi Darbella!

You have done a great job with the picture of your cute zebra finch- I hope am not intruding with the talks here since I'm a newbie in this forum site but I just want to say that the link here from wikipedia might be helpful, wiki/Zebra_Finch..yeah, I guess this one will be more informative. I think by now your finch has started some changes in its physical appearance. Happy finch keeping!

-PS, I was not allowed to post link since this is my first post but you'll easily find the page I'm referring to.
