I have some RIRs, and I live near a forest. There is a fox who keeps getting them, so I don't think the color is a big help. You could get a rooster, and then if a there is an attack, the rooster will fight while the hens go back to the coop or a safe place. The rooster will likely be killed, but that is their duty.Yea but i live close to a forest so i think i going to get a brown one instead.
No i'm just asking cause i don't want my chickens to get attack but thanks.Let me put it to you like this. If I wanted to catch a hawk or falcon to train to the fist for hunting purposes, I WOULD BE SURE to bait my trap with either a white pigeon or a white pullet.
Other chicken killing vermin are not that racist because they will kill your chickens equally quickly regardless of what color their feathers are but white is more noticeable from a distance.
This is just 60 years of experience talking so take it any way that you want to take it.
Furthermore, what ever color of chicken you fancy by all means get that color, because you will on average look at them more often and more carefully if you enjoy looking at them, and looking at them often helps keep them safe as well as happy.
There is an old saying in animal agriculture that goes something like this, "Nothing fattens the calf better or faster than the master's eye," believe it!!
