so around here most ppl call any white coturnix quail TX A&M's... but in some recent reading i read that TX A&M's are supost to have all white meat??? i know that they are supost to be larger 2... the first ones i bought did not fit eather of these... and the first time i hatched them i had all of the colors eggs together in the incubator and i did not know that some of the tuxidos chicks would hatch white... so now i dont think that i should sell mine as TX A&M's right??? so what do i call them??? regular whites??? lol...

i also have a good start of the english whites... but im keeping them totaly seprate lol...

so does anyone know when TX A&M quite breeding them??? and has anyone kept a pure covie of them pure sence then??? and does anyone have some that are larger and have all white meet???

thanks for your thoughts and comments... Elias

PS sry about the spelling im on my GF comp and she does not have spell check

"These birds also have a meat coloration that very closely approximates that of the bobwhite quail. The flesh and carcass appearance of the bird is very appealing to the gourmet consumer," he said.
A "dressed" Texas Gourmet Quail weighs between 6.5 and 7.5 ounces, while a bobwhite quail weighs about 4.5 ounces, he said."

dressing out at 70% sounds like about a 10 oz bird Hmm

I take it you never seen the Bear Bayou A&M's

A. THERE ARE NO WHITE MEAT COTURNIX.... THAT INCLUDED THE BEAR BAYOU BIRDS. COTURNIX IS COTURNIX, NATURE DID NOT DESIGN THEM AS WHITE MEAT BIRDS AND WHILE WE MAY TINKER WITH HER DESIGNS SHE DOES HAVE SOME ABSOLUTE RULES THAT EVEN US EGOMANIACAL HUMANS MUST ABIDE BY. --- READ THE TEXAS A&M BROCHURE LISTED IN THE LINK THAT WAS PUBLISHED BY THE CREATOR... AND YOU WILL SEE THAT THEY ARE NOT WHITE MEAT. THIS MYTH HAS BEEN BEATEN TO DEATH ON HERE FOR A VERY LONG TIME.

B. SO FAR AS I KNOW BEAR BAYOU IS NO LONGER IN THE QUAIL BUSINESS AND HAVE NOT BEEN FOR QUITE A WHILE

C. YEAR ROUND EGG SOURCE FOR GOOD STOCK OF THESE CAN BE FOUND AT LAKE CUMBERLAND GAME FARMS... WHILE THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE LEAVES MUCH TO BE DESIRED IN THE COMMUNICATIONS DEPT, THEIR STOCK IS VERY GOOD AND THE EGGS DO QUITE WELL.... AS I DO NOT ROUTINELY RECOMMEND LARGE HATCHERIES FOR OURCES OF GAMEBIRDS I DO RECOMMEND THEM FOR A&M'S OR BROWN JUMBO STRAINS

True Bear Bayou has been out of business for awhile..Their A&M's were definitly lighter fleshed than regular Coturnix, If I'm not mistaken Cumberland got their start from Bear Bayou..Fact is the A&M's and Butlers went downhill since Bear Bayou went out of business
