Along with my white silkie, that I posted in another post. What do you all think of my polish? I know girls are supposed to be puffy and boys are supposed to be spiky. There are no waddles yet at 5 1/2 weeks, so could it be a girl? What do people think, do I need to wait? Please help ID sex.

You all know I go to sleep wondering the sex of these chicks. Is it just me or are there other people like me who worry about the sex of their chicks?
I want to keep them all you know....... but too many roosters is a bad thing!

Thanks!

Hello,
I have been working with chickens for a short time, but a lady I bought my EE from said the roos will have pointy feathers and the hens will have rounded feathers.

Is this a HEN OR A ROO? REMEMBER ROUNDED FEATHERS ARE HEN AND POINTY FEATHERS ARE ROOS

My question is, is this a hatchery bird or a breeder bird? That makes a big difference. If it is a hatchery bird, I have no guess right now because they can be so far off mark from what they should be that it takes a while. If a breeder bird, I am going to say roo because of the "mowhawk" look. At 5 1/2 weeks, a breeder girl should have more of a half tennis ball looking crest going on and be almost not able to see already.

Not all breeds of chickens do the roosters have pointed hackle and saddle feathers. In some breeds, the roosters are "hen feathered" (Sebright is a good example) and all of their feathers will be rounded.

I agree with acid chipmunk

To answer the question. This is a hatchery chick. So I guess I need to wait. It is just so frustrating! Why can't they come wrapped in blue and pink ribbons? Question: at what age will I start seeing waddles and are larger waddles in polishes a sign of it being a male? Or, should I be looking for poofy v. spiky or a combination of both? I see what is being said about saddles. I just find it really hard to tell with saddles. I need more practice!
