White Crested Polish Hen Changing Color

About the color change - besides not knowing her age, it's been so gradual. Over the last few months maybe? Didn't seem to coincide with anything. She laid eggs last summer and was black. She resumed laying again this past week looking like a backwards Dalmatian.

I see a male in the top picture. Look at the lenght of the crest, the wattles & the pointed hackle feathers. The Female in the second picture has much smaller wattles & a normal female crest. They sure don't appear to be the same bird to me.

Here's a better picture of her. This was about 10 months ago. It really is the same bird. She just looks particularly crazy when it rains and it rains here a lot.

She is definitely mottled, and that color gets progressively more white as the bird ages. Does she have any extra toes? I'm wondering if she's not a WCB Polish/Mottled Houdan mix- she's a bit on the thick side for a Polish and Houdans are a bit meatier.

Very pretty, regardless.

"Thick" is a nice term. I have been thinking she is fatter than she was last summer, too. She was so narrow before. Now only her eggs seem narrow. No extra toes, but we'll keep her any way. ;-) We'll just refer to her as "Mottled Ady" now. Thanks everyone!
