White discharge from vent, 1 hen dead already

A friend gave me two new hens. One stayed in the coop and lay down a lot, didn't seem to eat much (I never saw her with a normally bulging crop). I saw yellow diarrhea once, other times normal looking but rather soft poop, but she seemed to strain to poop. Lots of messy white stuff on the feathers around her vent. Then one morning she was unconscious and died while I held her. Her vent was pink and a little swollen looking. Otherwise she seemed "normal" except thin. Now two of my other hens have white stuff dripping from their vents, and somebody had mucousy diarrhea yesterday, so I'm very concerned that they've caught the disease and will waste away and die.

I read about vent gleet, but I'm not sure that's the diagnosis here. Just white stuff on the first hen's butt; and the problem does seem to be contagious. There's no poultry vet in my area so I don't think I can get a poop sample analyzed unless I drive 80 miles or so...but I will do that if necessary. Any help with diagnosis and treatment would be great, TIA!

It sounds like vent fleet if anything just try some monastat on your girls to see if that is the problem.

I have some Clotrimazole (vaginal anti-fungal cream) that I used to treat a chicken with crop trouble (gave it orally then) and I'm assuming this would work as well as Monostat...if not, let me know.

Sorry if this is a really dumb question, but uh, would I give the medicine orally -- or would I just smear it on the vent -- or would I use a small topical syringe and put it inside the vent?

How many times a day? And how soon will I know it's working...or not working and I need to try to find some sort of vet somewhere...

You would want to apply the cream topically. Most common cream is anti-fungal for athlete's foot, but looking up what you have (Clotrimazole) that may be suitable. Just make sure you research that aspect for yourself.

Have they been wormed?
Can you post a picture of the vent and poo?
