X2 your absolutely correct as this is the number 1 cross at the hatcheries to improve the WR's laying rate, as if they need anymore help, they lay well without fiddling with them.

The APA only recognizes the rose comb variety. However, single comb RIWs do exist, especially in hatchery quality birds.
Have also observed them in Grandparent Stock used in producing red sex links.
Sorry, your birds' genetics would only be a guess.

Sorry but that's like saying Ameraucanas have green legs too but only in hatchery stock. . . . It is more than likely that hatcheries crossed out a LOT to get what they wanted. That or never had them in the first place, but instead call a slightly different looking poor quality White Rock as a RIW.

Anyway, off topic.

Single Comb Rhode Island White only exist in Hatcheries eyes.
What hatcheries are calling a Rhode Island White is just cross.

I've never raised Rhode Island Whites, so cannot really speak with authority. ALBC apparently knows someone who does
and state the ocassional single comb individuals do occure. Probably a throw back to cochin blood. Genes are funny that way.
Not really worth arguing about.
