Ok so I'm new here and new to raising chickens. Gotten alot of helpful info the posts here so I'm hoping someone can help me figure this out.

Took my grandsons to southern states at easter and we bought 6 baby chicks, a white leghorn, 2 black marens, an easter egger, and 2 other type of leghorn. We've lost 3 to the neighbors dogs(thats a whole other story), the easter egger, 1 maren, and 1 of the other leghorn (it was red) the easter egger went 1st and we replaced it with a mixed hen 2 weeks younger than the rest. We've been getting eggs about 3 weeks now and the mixed hen is not laying yet. Anyway all I'm getting is brown eggs. Shouldn't my white leghorn be laying white eggs? And if its not a white leghorn what else could it be? I mean its just a plain white chicken.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Thanks. I guess she must be a white rock, which is weird considering they weren't even selling that breed. Makes me wonder if my other 2 chicks from there are really what they said they were. She is definitely laying. I saw her lay an egg just this morning.

Oh my. That would be terrible. In NC stores, bird shows, and auctions can't sell chicks till spring so I'm looking at dealing with a hatchery to replace my lost hens anywa . Don't think I'll be buying anymore from the farm stores next spring. Thanks again.
