White leghorns - 4 wks old. Larger combs? Update 12wk pics,post 23.

No worries! I'll post pics again either at around 8 weeks or when I see red, whichever comes first. I still think all four are the same thing, whether that be pullet or roo - if MPC gave me four roos, either the order was sent to the hatchery wrong or the sexer was asleep at the switch!

I need to have my hubby here to take good pics - those chickies would rather fly away than take a picture..

If they are roos, that's gonna be interesting. I think leghorns are not so hot for eating, so we'll see who will take them.

(I'm veggie).

I ordered 5 leghorns from cackle and one it obviously a roo. they are all 8-9 weeks old now and the pullets do have slightly larger combs than the other breeds that I have with them (BR, BO, BJG). but 4 out of 5 of them have larger combs, but they are still quite yellow, now for "broiler" his comb is so red and thicker it is way obvious. let me change out the batteries in my camera and I can take pics for you if you would like

okay so here is my five. at 4 weeks I could tell a difference. but all birds are different. give it time. I got mine from cackle and they were supposed to all be pullets, but sexing is only like 93% accuracy or so. 4 out of my 5 leghorns are pullets in my personal opinion

these must be girls!

I'm not going to comment on sex on this one, but ah hum, it isn't the "switch" that they are at. LOL. Anyhoot, they guarantee a 90% accuracy I believe on sexing, so basically one out of ten theoretically will be mis-sexed. And it always seems to lean towards cockerels and not pullets that one ends up with. On a side note, the little chick should be thankful he did get mis-sexed because his fate otherwise would have been far less happy to put it mildly.

Yuh, if I get ONE roo out of eight chicks I'd just chalk it up to the 90% rule, but to get four our of eight seems really high. And I haven't even posted good pics of the RIR's yet - so far there's not much comb development on those so nothing to guess on yet. If all four leghorns are roos, maybe the expert was out sick that day.

Anyways, seeing bethandjoeync's birds gives me some hope.

Hahahahha. Umm. Just a little. LOL. Did Broiler have that pink comb at 4 weeks? I especially like his evil red eye.
