I recently bought 8 chicks - two of which were white marans. I've heard that these are considered rare and they were kind of pricey compared to other chicks from my pet chicken ($10). I'll post pictures of the girls below.

Neither of these girls are especially friendly, but Elsa tolerates handling. Betty Lou doesn't enjoy it much, but I know it just depends on the chicken. These birds are purebred so I'm considering showing them when they are older. Are these birds pretty rare? I'm new to this so excuse my ignorance

. If they are, I'd considered breeding them if they turn out to be good birds to better the breed.

Show me pics of your white marans!

White marans are sort of rare. If you got them from a hatchery, however, chances are they aren't very true to breed and, unfortunately, might not even have the dark marans egg colors. Also, just so you know, marans always has an 's' on it, even if it is only one bird. They originated in Marans, France, and so the breed is marans, not maran :)

Thank you for telling me that! I had no idea :) I bought these from a lady who got them from a hatchery so I'm hoping they are at least close to true to breed and I'm REALLY hoping they have the dark eggs. Il be oretty bummed if they don't. :(

Yeah, I unfortunately also made the mistake of ordering a marans from a hatchery when I was new and the egg color was just not there. But since you got these from My Pet Chicken, who dropships from Meyer, these would be Meyer hatchery chicks, and Meyer has some of the nicer birds and I think they try to be good with egg color so you might get lucky.
