White Mystery Chick

We do. She hatched them for us during the summer and kept them until they were about 7 weeks old.
We got a layer from them, and have had her for two weeks. No eggs there. Supposedly she is about 1-2 years old.
Care to share a photo of the layer? I'm curious...

We laugh about it now. We did end up with 3 lovely girls, even if we didn't end up with a bunch of eggs. We enjoyed them immensely. Wouldn't have changed a thing, about 4 months later someone was giving away 9 pullets, cause they had too many chickens. We hatched a few ourselves with a broody, and had 16 chickens at one point. Our priest at church got fresh eggs every week and our neighbor with 2 teenage boys got fresh eggs every week. All things happen for the best! LOL

That’s an awesome story. I’m looking forward to eggs. :)
Thanks again for sharing.

Sorry for the delay. :)
Here are a couple of pics of the layer.
She moved in with us a couple of weeks ago, and no eggs yet.
Maybe she’s old? I was told that the missing feathers on her head are because a rooster picked on her. They don’t seem to be growing back. Is there something that I can do to help with feather growth?
Thank you.

The absent tail feathers makes me think she's molting. Hens molt seasonally and they quit laying while they do. With the shorter days, you may be waiting until February for an egg. Supplemental light would shorten the wait.

If the missing head feathers have to do with the molt or were plucked by another bird, she'll get them back. But if she is scarred, there's nothing that you can do to force feather growth.

I can't see the legs all that well but do they look rough to you? If the scales are sticking up, you'll want to treat her for scaly leg mites.

Age is super hard to judge on a grown chicken. She's an adult and a she, at least. If the feet/legs are as rough as the peek I see suggests, she may be older but it's also explained by a heavy infestation of scaly mites.

Thank you so much. This is very helpful.
