White or Red bulb for heat lamp

Most recommend a red one. Doesn't interfere with their sleep pattern. Make sure it says safe for brooders. Some have a Teflon coating, bad for chicks. My first were raised under a white light and did ok.

Currently I am using a white one with approximately 2 wk old chicks. I keep a thermometer in the box to keep an eye on the temp, and adjust the lamp according to temp.

X2. We've used both. In addition to the red not interfering with their sleep cycle it does seem to last longer. As Ron C said, make sure it isn't Teflon coated. That is dangerous and can kill chicks.
