The crest is very uniform and well rounded. I don’t see any wattle development at all. I’m voting pullet!![]()
The hawks here are wild, 'Io, and only found on the Big Island apparently. Our chickens are in a covered coop/run. I let them out only if I am right there, as unforturtunately we have a lot of mongoose where I live!I believe the BI hawks are privately owned & trained. The Pueo don’t bother our flock, they’re nocturnal and night hunt. My hens are in their coop just before sunset.
We’ve not had a problem with mongoose. I think they smell our dogs so stay away. Because they’re in the surrounding area. Friend of mine had one of her young pullets taken today! Granted they didn’t have a very mongoose proof enclosure. I have half inch by half inch hardware cloth over my entire coop and run with a 12 inch apron as well! I think when the chickens are bigger it’s less of a problem, but they can take a full grown Silkie!We’ve not had a problem with mongoose. I think they smell our dogs so stay away.
