Hello, I have one copper marans I noticed pooped all white this morning. Walking near the run gate (these birds are all free ranged) I noticed more white droppings. None of my birds are showing any symptoms. The are all very active other than the two new marans, they seem to not be fitting in and I have to carry them into the coop because they like to lay outside of it. One of them is somewhat skinny but doesn’t seem sick at all. She follows me around and likes to sit by my feet.

The marans are a pair of hens we’ve just let out after just getting them about 3 weeks ago. They are young pullets, not yet laying. I have been giving them the same layer feed and am wondering if this might be the problem.

About two weeks ago we changed from scratch corn to a high protein feed for our laying hens.

Yes! These are the new girls. Followed by some droppings I see laying outside. I did see the two girls standing around some droppings that might have been theirs. As I said one is very friendly and wanted to pose and peck the camera a little.

They could just be dehydrated but I'm sorry to tell that the birds pictured are definitely cockerels and very likely aren't actually being friendly.

they do have water all day available. I keep two water buckets with water cups.

And thank you for the insight. No worries on that part. We’ve also wanted the Maran Roos. Currently have none, now maybe we have two 😅

Definitely have two... have they ever been wormed?
You're going to need to feed all your birds and all flock or grower feed, since males and growing birds shouldn't eat layer feed, too much calcium, not enough protein. High Calcium in non laying birds causes kidney damage and gout.
Just throw out oyster shells for your laying hens.

All of my birds other than these two are at laying age but they’ve been maybe getting too much calcium. We had mixed layer feed with calcium carbonate. I plan on getting them off the layer feed and seeing if it helps. And isolating the two Roos since we have more than enough empty runs.

I have never wormed chickens. My parents mainly ran the coop growing up so I know the basics but I’m essentially very new to this. What is a good way to worm the flock?
