White/Red Lights

Aloha all,

I wondering what the advantages/disadvantages of different heating lights are... thanks!

Typically white lights are not recommemed as they can impead the normal sleep cycles of the chicks.. I have used both white and red and the only thing I have noticed is you cant keep as many birds together when using white as they tend to peck and fight more.. With the red they dont seem to this as m,uch

IMO the best brooder heat comes from a heat emitter, no light at all. I used one because my old Brooder light was in a pen providing supplementel heat in March.
These chicks slept from dusk to dawn, no peeping all night, just as if they were under a hen.

My 2nd batch of chicks in April got the red light in their brooder. These chicks are 10weeks old and still afraid of the dark. They will not go into their coop unless I have a night light turned on for about a 1/2 hour at dusk.
