I have two white rock hens, almost two years old. They have been laying typical shades of brown eggs. About 4 months ago, we introduced them to a Bresse Roo. Just recently, the girls have been laying a mix of their usual eggs, but now there are white ones! Not cream, but white!!! Can anyone explain?????
and Welcome To BYC! The eggs of brown layers normally get lighter as the laying cycle goes on, and it seems to be especially common in older hens. The eggs are normal otherwise, good shell? They are laying well and not been sick etc, the rest of the flock is fine? If everything else is normal, it could be just age/heredity if they doing it pretty consistently ... Nice article on loss of shell color in brown eggs and possible causes.
The hens are healthy, thank goodness! Thanks for the wonderful advice
