Has anyone got any experience with white rocks? I dont see many if any posts on them.

Im wondering about their laying abilities; if they are as good or better than barred rocks. And I wonder, if you crossed a white rock roo over barred girls, what would your result be? Would they be sex linked?

go
here and scroll down, theres 2 pics of a black barred rooster that had a barred rock as a dad and a white rock as a mother, hope that kinda helps lol.
And I agree, I havent seen any info of white rocks here. I've heard that they make better setters then the barred, which probably means the barreds lay a little better. But Brs now a days have lots of production blood into them

Halo - well on Crohio on the Plymouth Rock site there are TONS - course they're all show birds. But you certainly couldn't go wrong throwing some show blood in. I know show PRs don't produce well. Don't know about the whites but don't know anyone with a white heritage flock.

One of my blue pullets was killed and I about died. Coon got her. Broke my heart. Still have one left, gonna need more eggs, can't have just ONE blue chicken. They were getting so close to POL... sigh....heartbreaking. It was the darker blue one too. I miss her. I'm going to send you the money for a resend of that disaster shipment and see if I can get a better hatch out of the next batch. Maybe do 18 and pay you for the extra ones, and have better luck that way too.

I was just thinking if I could produce a sex link with white rocks and barred rocks, in order to keep the producing up. I love my little projects that I have going, all the froo froo girls, but Id like to hatch out a great production line from my barred girls that is sex linked. I just can't decide what kind of rooster to use. I thought maybe white rock, but maybe the good production has been bred out of them. I was thinking leghorn, but Im not sure I can deal with that personality. Oh well.

We have both whites and barred and I would say that they lay about the same in eggs per hen. They all get the same feed and watering ect so the variables there would be the same. However, as of right now we have three whites setting on eggs(*which by the way started hatching today) and none with the BRs. Our whites are larger in size than our BRs but not by much they are also a tad older. Do a search on sexlinks...

I did a lot of research on sex links; I do not want to get a Rhode Island Red roo, which seems to be the most popular option.

Halo use a Delaware . You keep a VERY wide body, don't lose tail set, the heads are similar and the legs are supposed to be yellar (lol). See my Delaware Roolet Gallant on my 19wk thread, and the pullets in the link.

And wow ... at the risk of repeating myself, size and lay are substantial. Mine aren't laying yet but the breeder I got the girls from is SWAMPED in eggs most of the time.

Our white rock is a trip. My daughter named her Princess- but I call her The Ringleader. They are great layers- and crossed with RIR - Red Stars are supposed to be the best brown egg layers. We only have the one- as I gave most away as chicks. Wish we would have kept more. She will get up in your lap and take food right out of your hand- whether you want her to or not! She likes to get in the car too.

My barred rocks are not nearly as friendly. It could depend on the individual birds too though.
