White Rocks

A cockerel normally becomes sexually active at around 24-26 weeks.  He's pretty clumsy at first, but he keeps trying.  It would almost unthinkable for an 11 week old cockerel to be sexual active or functional.

Perhaps I was unclear, my BCM Roo mounted one of my white rock hens; So I'm wondering if perhaps my Rocks are older than 11-12 weeks.
I bought them from a gal who bought them from a breeder & then got in over her head.

Females can be judged by their development of combs and wattles and the deeper red color that comes with that maturity. Once you see deep red in the comb and wattles, you know that such a female is approaching maturity. This is entire dependent on the breeding of the bird and the strain, so generalities aren't helpful, such as saying 14 weeks (something a red sex link might begin to "show", or a late blooming breed such as a Jersey Giant at 28 weeks.

Mounting can sometimes simply be a sign of dominance and not entirely sexual. A mature cockbird is very knowledgeable about the maturity of the pullets and will only begin to mount them when eggs are very near.

A young, hormone driven cockerel will mount a fence post or a rock. LOL

My white rocks are just over 4 months old, I got 2 of them last Saturday at the Poultry swap - I cannot wait for them to start laying.... What does anyone know about Maran's?... I got 2 peeps, hoping they are girls.....

I got 10 White Rocks but when I got them I ended up with 8 rooster and 2 hen

I have 2 white rocks that started around 5 months - I get 1 brown egg from each chicken/day - they had to find their spot - I found some in the coop & some in the window well until they both found a spot on the back patio they liked - so since it was under cover and they roam the yard everyday - that is where the nest boxes went and they lay there.... every now and then we have gotten 2 eggs from one of them but we don't know which one....LOL - also we end up with a giant double yolk every now and then also.
