White silkies with other color genes hidden ??? more pics, page 3

Thanks, Sonoran Silkie! I understand all of the bit about alleles and recessive/dominant, etc, but I couldn't figure out the what the letters meant. Then I had to look up pictures on birchen, wheaten, and partridge so I could figure out how that allele affected the colors!

I'll have to keep digging and see if I can figure out the rest of the letters and how they work.

This has been a very interesting thread !! I do not know anything about color inheritance in any breed of chickens but when I got my dobermans the Doberman Pincher Club of America had this really cool color inheritance chart on their website that shows you the different genetic color codes (ex. dominant black is BBDD and only throws black while a BbDd can throw all 4 color puppies) and that is how I learned about their color inheritance. Here is the link to that chart:

I was wondering if there is anything like this for any of the chicken breeds that makes it easier to understand how they get their coloration and what crossed with what makes what colored chicks.

Sonoran Silkies post about 4 up from this one has a link to a chicken color genetics book. On that site, there's a link to a page where it will calculate genetic expectations in chickens. But it's, um... beyond me! LOL

Good luck!

Oh lord, it has been a loonnnnggg day, last week of classes before the semester ends and since i am close to graduation my brain is really starting to shut down . . . . Thanks for pointing that out !! No one mind the crazy doberman/chicken lady here . . . .

Okay, here's the bluish brown one. It's hard to see the color in the pics, but I think you can get an idea of the blue that seems to be showing in the feet feathers.
