White Sussex Chickens

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.
I bought 10 day old white Sussex chick's & 5 turned out to be roosters.
Is that normal odds?
Those are the actually statistical odds. My hatch ratio this year was more like 70%-75% cockerels to pullets so consider yourself lucky.
Also when does this breed start to lay?
It depends on the individual bird and the time of the year when they hit sexual maturity.

Hiya, and welcome to BYC! :frow

50/50 is what it's supposed to be, but rarely do we hear that. Often the sexed pullets folks buy from hatcheries or farm stores wind up having a rooster in there, so even that's not failsafe 100%.

Poultry groups for my state/area on FB or Craigslist are a couple of places I've used to peddle extra roosters.

We're glad you're here!
