Whitewash the Inside Of Your Coop: Recipe, Cheap and Easy

Love love the pix o' chix!
And I do think the buffs are also known as comets (or sex-linked?) but I get confused...lol

Here is a not-great pic of four of mine...need better ones soon! The two with the log are golden laced wyandottes and the other two are Partridge Rocks at about nine weeks.

They are now foraging in the yard under supervision, after about an hour they go back in the run and take a nap...SOOO cute...

That's so awesome! I grew up in Ocala! My husband and I moved to Orlando for a short stint and now because of our business, were in Lake County. Gainesville is an awesome place. The oaks mall was my go-to hang out spot as a teen

I loved growing up there and Ocala was wonderful as well...if I moved anywhere in the US, it would probably be to the same area...idyllic...I am sure it has changed over the years!

Such pretty birds! How do you like your Golden Laced Wyandottes? I have two, they're just starting to get some of their golden coloring. I think they're going to be my favorite color-wise.

I love this area. Well, not so much Lake county, but Marion and Alachua are definitely my favorites. The only upside to living in Lake County is that it's closer to theme parks, lol!

Started our coop this weekend. Bought my doors and windows at a restore place for humanity. Am so very excited. Was wondering what to do with the inside. Thank you for the recipe and pic. I am learning so much from BYC and am in need of more.

Wow! Love that coop! It IS exciting isn't it!! Let us know how the whitewash works! (and you are welcome!)

@Tooshay89 how about Micanopy and Cross Creek? So many beautiful places there...I LOVE my Gold Laced Wyandottes, they are friendly and sweet and oh so gorgeous! The black on their feathers is iridescent...hard to see in pics!

@mobius Yes!! So many areas up that way that are amazing. I wish we could make it up that way more often, but with pesky work getting in the way, it just never seems to happen. Are you a gator fan?? We have a TON of those around here. I can walk down the street and count at least 10 Gator flags on front porches, haha!

Wow!! You guys have a lot of it done already. How big is it? Have you decided where you want to put your roosting bars and nesting boxes?

Thanks. There were three of us working from early morning to dusk. We were exhausted, but in a good way. Haven't got to the inside yet. Have been reading on here about heights for the nesting and roosting areas. Have it laid out in my mind. Ha ha It is 8X10 and I have 8 hens. Can anyone tell me what size of a run I should have for 8 chickens?

10 square feet per chicken, about...so 80 square feet...in the run. Lol, you must count "chicken math" as it is known here: the need to ADD more chickens. Your coop would be big enough, at four square feet per chicken (minimum) for 20 chickens...so think ahead if you want to add more, cause the run would then need to be bigger. i am maxed out at 6 chickens myself...
