See, I kinda like that approach. “I bred Pretty Bird to Other Pretty Bird to see if I could make More Pretty Bird. Breed standard colors? Why?”
Like, I get how that attitude would be frustrating to people who are breeding specifically for color and only want to buy a bird with predictable plumage genetics, but for someone who’s just looking for a healthy, friendly bird who lays a guaranteed blue egg, the amount of inbreeding that goes into making a bird that breeds true for traits they don’t care about is more bug than feature, to paraphrase myself from earlier. That’s kinda what turned me off purebred Ameraucanas.
Unfortunately, WTBs are probably out for me too- they have a reputation for being flighty, standoffish and nervous, and that doesn’t fit well in a semi-urban environment. Too much noise, they’d spook right over the fence if it didn’t give the poor thing a heart attack first. Better for somewhere with a good amount of space for free-ranging and fewer loud, irritable neighbors.
