Hello BYC,

Need some help determining if my whiting true blue is a hen or rooster. Purchased "it" as a pullet not in a straight run bunch, but I am not sure. "It" is around 14 -16 weeks old no crowing or clucking still makes the kind of "peeping" sound most of the time. I am not allowed roosters in my neighborhood so any help would be greatly appreciated.

100% Rooster!

To explain, you can very clearly see the male rooster saddle feathers there. They are long, pointy and have that very shape (almost like a sharp triangle). Hen feathers are rounded.

Its a very pretty Rooster. However, sorry that you are in a situation where you cannot keep any.. (I love roosters).

I'm leaning toward rooster because of the brown feathers but the pointing of the feathers is playing tricks on my eyes. The brown is making the feathers look pointed yet when I zoom in, there is a white border around the brown and the white is rounded.
Could you place a colored piece of paper under those feathers at the back end of him to make sure they are either all rounded feathers or pointed feathers.

Here is an example of what I see. Its very similar to the saddles on yours(shape wise).

As long as its not crowing yet, give it some more time and post an update of youre still unsure, since its still fairly young.

There are a couple feathers coming that give it away, but, this is also a male coloring of the WTB. Dark red patches on the wings are a giveaway. I circled the clear saddle feathers. If you pull back the feathers in this area, you'll see more of these underneath the current feathers. ....
