Who all is having corn beef and cabbage for New Years Day?

Our New Year food tradition came from my maternal grandmother's family--sauerkraut and pork for good luck. Her family was French Canadian and I'm not exactly sure how this dish became involved. Anyway, everyone from the youngest to the oldest must have at least a bit of the dish. Our 4 month old great granddaughter had her first shred of sauerkraut and pork today. Other than that we usually have Hungarian goulash--my daughter's favorite. Happy New Year!

Back in 2007 my Dad gave us a half gallon of Jack Daniels, not knowing that we don't drink. Last toothache it came in handy, this one too. Tooth still hurts, but I couldn't care less.

I miss collards! DH can't have any dark greens while he is on coumadin therapy for the blood clots. Not gonna bother with a big pot just for me. Back to the brisket (cut in small pieces, since I can't chew well).

Here in PA Dutch Country it is mandatory to have Pork and Sauerkraut for luck on New Year's Day.

I like corn beef & cabbage!! We usually have it on St. Patrick's day though. If I remember to buy the corned beef before they are all sold out.

We had Clam Chowder last night, one of my favorites, not really a tradition, but it sounded good!!! Joe, what would you recommend to use in your recipe that would be an alternative to the Irish Beer? Thanks for posting the recipe, it sounds really good!

Dinner tonight at my parents. Greens, blackeyed peas, cornbread, pork , deviled eggs, brownies, and sweet tea. Is it 6 yet?

Blackeyed peas with onions and Country Style ham shank for seasoning went on the cooktop this morning, to simmer all day. Hmmm, the aroma just speaks of New Year's Day. This along with greens will be the tradition in our NY's Day dinner with grilled strip steak, roasted sweet/yukon gold potatoes, stuffed baby bella mushrooms and for dessert...ice cream with cherry topping. Yum! My dad was raised in the bootheel of Missouri where the new year just couldn't begin without blackeyed peas and greens. ~G Oops, forgot the cornbread--NOT sweet.

I don't have the stuff to make it.

I am gonna make meat loaf and fresh scalloped potatoes. Meat loaf sounded really good the other day and I have all the stuff for it.
