Who all owns Maine Coon Cats?

He's probably a Maine Coon mix, lilshadow. And you're right, he's a cutie-patootie alright...

I have a Maine Coon type - got him as a young stray so don't know what his real breeding is (or exactly how old he is now) but he totally looks and acts like a purebred. He is 23+ pounds and the sweetest guy ever.

We are in Florida so he gets a lion cut every 3 months since his hair matts so badly and is just impossible to take care of.
My groomer loves him and when he leaves he has a little bandanna around his neck. She said he is so patient and just sits there but when he wants her to take a break on the clipping he just swishes his tail to let her know.

When he comes home he is so proud of his new haircut. His new coat feels like cashmere so he gets petted a lot which he loves.

Ours were more of the coloring of, Lurky's. We had, Badger, Brock, and Tuck. (Friar Tuck.) The latter passed away recently, Brock a year ago...they were brothers. What wonderful cats they were.

Brock's son is here. Even though he's 3/4, he looks pure, but is almost black. Same fur, back, ears and legs, though. Gorgeous, and great personality.

Or maybe I should say, who all is allowed to live with a Maine Coon cat?

I see them listed as members of the family for many posters, so I thought it'd be fun to take an informal poll. And to see if people who have them are as in love with the breed as I have become with my Norman. Here's a pic of him...

So how about it - who else lives with one of these characters?

We have one!
Our BigBob just came in from a triumphant dust up with a neighborhood cat that got in the garden, where my Olandsk Dwarf chickens live. We like to think he was protecting our chickens but more than likely was protecting his favorite mouse hunting grounds.

Our cat Zelda adopted us about10 years ago in Las Vegas. We think he was abandoned during the foreclosure crisis back then. We had seen him around many times and he always came into our garage for shelter and love when it was raining. But then suddenly one winter we saw him in our backyard all the time. We would go out back to have a cigarettes and he would pop up in our yard as soon as we'd go outside! It was a cold winter and started snowing, so we put out a towel for him to stay dry on. Then we gave him some water and food... then we put a collar on him with our phone number. We called around and tried to see if anyone was missing their kitty, but eventually he came into our house and stayed. We've moved three times now with him. He hates it when we start packing, but he's very happy when everything gets settled down. We did a DNA test on him and he's part Maine Coon and part Ragdoll! So he's a big fat lover! Not shy in the least and rules over our Bernese Mountain dog! Unfortunately he has a very aggressive form of bone cancer, so he's not going to be with us much longer. He's lived a very wonderful and long life... we know he's at least 12 possibly older. Even with the cancer he's still such a loving kitty. Demanding too. We've been spoiling him more the last few months since his diagnosis and giving him more bites of our food. So he gets up next too us and tries to take all the food off of our utensils or out of our mouths... or will grab our arms to make us give him food. It's annoying and funny at the same time. We love him so much and will miss him terribly.

What beautiful cats! Thank you for sharing!

I love Maine Coons. They have a tendency to pick you out as opposed to the other way around. My first one was one was a farm mix we had when I was a kid...a big fuzzy good natured kitten started following me around a farm we were visiting and we were offered the cat...He lived until he was 18 and cuddled my son as a baby.

The two below are our current MC mixes. We moved onto the property here and they were already here- kitten season kittens my landlord got for their barn. However, they saw quickly that the two cats I moved here with got wet food and got to come inside for love and pets and they quickly got in on it.

Jones (the big male in the first picture) was the spearhead for this. He knew that to get in he would have to break down my husband, who kept chucking him out of our place until he couldn't stand the guilty feeling anymore, because that big kitten just kept coming back and looking at him with big bemused eyes. He now is an established and well loved member of the family...by every member of the family except our siamese. They carry on a little rivalry that seems more posturing than real aggression. Jones will grab you and make you pet him, even guiding your hand to where he wants scratched. He is also the legendary 'Steamshovel Jones' who can put away cat food like noone's business.

This is Fitz. She came from the same immediate neighborhood as Jones and probably shares a father or grandfather. She was a real rescue, a lot more feral and wary than Jones, but she didn't want to stay in the barn with the mean barn cat either. I think her MC genes are what made her friendly enough with humans to tame as her short haired sister remained in the barn as a feral. Sorry for the blurry pic. She is elusive and hard to get a picture of. When she is in the mood, she is the best cuddler.

I love Maine Coons! They are a special and amazing cat breed.

@Wyndsong I am so sorry to hear that your cat is ill. It is hard enough to lose a pet, but the active affection and big heartedness of a Maine Coon is very special and hard to have to say goodbye to. Sending you🌹<3

ETA, just noticing the chicken poop on my porch in the first picture. Good Lord.
