Who breeds Welsummers?

L&Schickens - What area of Washington State are you from? Are you going to be selling any hatched chicks or just eggs?

Well I looked into the import requirments and essentielly the birds have to come from NPIP certified flock or from a flock in which all birds over 4 months of age have been tested for pullorum and typhoid in the last twelve months.

The vet certificate is no biggie , I can pay that.

Anyone breed welsummers that is NPIP certified??

I am working on getting my NPIP Certification as well. Currently waiting to see what the outcome is from the recent decision by the Dept. of Ag as to what they are going to charge us for testing.

I already participate in the Avian Influenza testing program and hope to be NPIP Certified soon.

Btw, I just noticed that no one answered your question about a Welsummer Breeders Club. To my knowledge the only Welsummer Club is in the UK. I've thought about seeing what I can do to get one started but I just have way too much on my plate right now to commit to anything else. If anyone hears of anyone starting something up, let me know and I'll sure help out however I can.

Whitmore Farms in Maryland sell Welsummers, eggs and chicks, and someone on this list mentioned she got lovely brids from them. Their farm site is wonderful. I am hoping to get some myself!

I know Sandhill Preservation does some importation but you will have to meet the chicks across the border to pick them up.
