This may be easy for some BUT not me. I just went to feed(check it) water(check it) and collect eggs...low and behold there were none NOT EVEN THE FAKE/FAUX eggs. The empty shell's were there on the floor and only 3 ish but fake were gone also...SO WHO CAN IT BE. ???

Rats or crow are my top two daytime suspects for egg thieves, in that order, and depending on your set up.

I don't think a snake would leave behind shells. And if it were a personal egg eater in the flock they would not have taken the fakes.

Raccoon, skunk, opossum maybe but chicken dinner is often on their menu and they tend to be more night time visitors.. I do see oddities all through out the animal kingdom though so I wouldn't rule them out completely.

Hope this helps give you some ideas and also that you stop the culprit! :fl

What do you think about squirrel? It is possibly a rat...we have had a "rodent(s)" in our attic about 3 weeks ago and found a dead(possibly poisoned) rat in the coop a week and a half ago. We haven't seen or heard any "activity" since we found the dead one and surmised that was the only one....maybe not... There are 2-3 young squirrels around however so maybe them ? I have not seen any evidence(poo) supporting a rat ...it may be time to fine and set up the trail cam..

My dog takes eggs out of the coop. He watches to make sure we are not looking. When we have caught him he takes out whole eggs and then carefully removes a litte shell when he gets away from the coop.

After taking a closer look at it and THINKING we are about 95% sure that our new(adopted) year old dog is the culprit. There was an 1/8th piece of wood attached to the perch to the bottom of it, the perch is a fold up to block access to the nest box if need be that was broken...looking like puppy shenanigans to us. She willful and doesn't come inside when called always...I was teaching her a lesson...and it BACKFIRED on me.

I would assume the pup can't swallow something big as a fake egg.Maybe you'll run across it later...
