They free range all day and sleep in a double-decker duck barn (9 Muscovy have the upstairs "apartment") and all my ducks sleep in there together. I have several nest boxes that the ducks sometimes use and sometimes don't. When they first start laying, they will often drop the egg where ever they happen to be standing, "like, whoa, what's that that just came out of my... wup SQUIRREL!" (they have serious ADHD). As they get older they get better about sitting down to lay their eggs in the pile with the rest.
I feed them different things at different times of the year. The standard base is 16% layer ration with powdered probiotics added in. In winter they get 1 scoop of cracked corn for every 2 scoops of pellets (mixed up) to help them put on a little weight and to stay warmer. In the spring I stop with the corn and switch to BOSS, then, just about the time the squirrels have invited all their 2nd cousins over to sit in my feed trays, I drop back down to the base.
The runner drakes have a high libido so I keep a minimum 1:5 ratio of runners. Although, my runner drakes favorite girl is actually a Cayuga... they're in love
and both get so sad when it's time to separate them out to their breeding pens from February through July.
