Who da boy?

Ha! I love Moaning Myrtle! I do have a dominant hen that croaks and gargles and she is known as Noisy bc she just never shuts up talking the entire day no matter what is going on.

I keep looking and looking...all combs the same, no difference in coloring other than one is a bit paler in a couple of new feathers on the chest. Nothing of roo coloring, saddle feathers, larger comb, different behaviors.

I have one Welsummer hen who... wails. I don't have a better word to describe it. She started doing it very young, before she laid, and it almost sounded like an attempted crow, but all one long note. I have had chickens for years and never heard anything like it. I was super confused because by feathering and all other indicators she was female, and hens who crow usually do it when they're older and dominant in the flock. I've gotten used to her now. Her name is Moaning Myrtle, and she lays some of my prettiest eggs.
That's interesting, I had no idea Welsummer's could wail. We've got 7 left (one died mysteriously and suddenly), all approx. 10 weeks old. I'll be watching them. I'm glad you shared this, thanks.
