Am I the only party pooper out there when it comes to Valentine's Day? For the life of me, I could never get into the "spirit" of Valentine's Day. I always thought that this day, along with a few others, is too commercialized and too profitable for some businesses. A lot of people spend a lot of money on flowers, candy, stuffed animals, cards, jewerly, etc, etc, etc. on Valentine's Day. I just don't get it. All through college and after college, I always told my boyfriends NOT to buy me any of that crap because in my opinion, it is a waste of MONEY. For a guy to spend his hard earned money on flowers that will die in 3 days, is a total WASTE. There are a few ladies in our office that are "needy" and have to get the flowers, the candy, etc from their boyfriends or husbands. They really and truly wait for the flower truck to pull up and deliver their flowers. And when they don't get anything they get upset.

I"m like, "WHAT". Seriously?? Really? Seriously?? And many of them know that they are getting the same thing EVERY YEAR. Seriously? Really? Seriously?

Why not show the person that you love them every day of the year? Why wait for February 14? I'm just sayin.....

Am I missing something?

Well, my hubby and I aren't really celebrating today......we just told eachother "Happy Valentine's Day!" That was it, but we did buy ourselves a nice new mattress just recently, so does that count? LOL Of course we've been married almost 11 years now......

I wouldn't object if he surprised me though with some chocolates or flowers......haha

Now, a nice mattress is a great idea! That is something that you can use and it won't die. That's a great Valentine's Day gift. Congrats on your new purchase. Sleep well.

I like your thinking in that if he surprised you with some chocolates. That would be a great gesture. Some of the folks that I am talking about are breaking their neck racing to the window when someone drives up. It's a circus!! Kinda reminds me of my chickens when I throw out treats.

I am not Catholic or Greek Orthodox religion and so do not believe in those faith's "Saints". I also do not believe of all the types of love out there that eros "romantic love" is the one that should recieve such an honor. Of the types of love eros is the most selfish, flighty, and shallow. I also do not believe portraying the biblical angels as cupid like is honest or even desirable. I am a happily married woman and have been so for 19 years.

As to the flowers my husband has purchased cut flowers a few times through our marraige, and while I don't mind them occasionally, he knows I would prefer a flower I can plant and look at for years, and usually gets me those in bloom. And chocolate, well I accept chocolate 24/7 365 1/4 days of the year!!!!!

I agree. I'm not very big on Valentine's Day. Forced romance, just doesn't seem very romantic to me. It's like you will show me you love me...or else!! It seems to have become much more one-sided as well. It's all about what the woman should receive. That's just not fair.

This year I bought DH a big bag of peanut M&M's and made him a giant chocolate chip cookie cake. This thing is huge! It covered up my entire pizza stone. I'll try to upload a photo of it.

Back when I was dating I was like a Disaster Magnet around Valentine's Day-- dumped, cheated on, embarrassed by my own foolishness... the list goes on (and on!). I got a little twitchy about it.

So when I started up with my (now) DH I asked if we could just skip the whole thing. He thought he'd won the lottery! He's not a "milestones" kind of guy, he's a "shows up every day and does the best he can" kind of guy, which I much prefer.

I give my wife presents thruout the year.I dont need to celebrate some day with a fat baby wearing a loaded diaper shooting arrows at peoples butts all day long.
