Who does this egg belong to-help!

Hello all! I went out to the coop today and found this egg in a nest on the coop floor. Occasionally my chickens will burrow out a nest and lay on the ground if their favorite nesting box is in use (strange birds), but the egg I got from the ground nest today was not a chicken egg!

It looks like a cayuga egg, however all of my cayugas are males. I've been trying to sell some of them to even out my male/female ratio- just sold one on Saturday, actually. The only hens I have are magpies and this doesn't look like any magpie eggs I have seen.

Is one of my "male" cayugas playing a trick on me? If so, how would I begin to figure out which one?

Attached is a picture of the egg, and a picture of all four cayugas (drake feathers and all!)

Thanks so much :)

Well I have cayugas and magpies, but if magpies just starting laying can lay black than the strange black egg from Tuesday must've been theirs :)

After reading all the comments, I agree that these dark greenish colored eggs is a Cayuga trait. I have Pekin/Cayuga and Cayuga/Mallard cross birds. Mine begin the dark color and then lighten. Don't have Magpies.
Two hens laying that many eggs is a curious event. The drake feathers don't lie.

Do your Cayuga all have the same "quack"or lack of quack as sometimes the case with boys? I have gotten 2 eggs in 24 he period from my runner girl but it is very sparingly. It is puzzling..lol

It's hard to tell what all of their quacks sound like individually because they're always in a group, haha. However they all have very very pronounced drake feathers.

I had my youngest males listed for sale, and someone is coming up to buy the final three tomorrow or Saturday....if the black eggs quit appearing I suppose we will know the truth! :barnie:rolleyes: Unless my older cayuga "boy" could be a culprit...but I've seen him mating so I'm thinking not :lau:hmm

I know how that is. I have a silkie that lays light brown eggs and I wasn't sure it was her til I actually saw her laying one. I had always heard silkies lay white eggs, but one of mine doesn't. It was a mystery for awhile too.
