Who else got some 2013 chicks?!

5 of ours are 2 weeks old and the other 9 (8 pullets and 1 rooster) are a week old. Still going good. People keep asking how many we've lost... none
So we are very blessed so far.

They're almost 2 weeks now! I can't believe how big they can get in just one day! We built them a pen in a spare room, and put a clothes drying rack on its side. They love jumping from pole to pole, and it's good practice for roosting. No major problems, a couple had pasty butt for 2 days but it cleared up. Still have all 18!

We picked up our Feb. chickies today and two out of four are doing great! It is a real heartbreaker, but we love 'em.

We have one of each:
- EE--one died, so now only one...
- Barred Rock
- Red Star
- Barred Rock, which is the one not doing well. So hoping he'll make it through the night!

22 arrived from My Pet Chicken a week ago. Lost one due to mis-handling by post office, but the rest are great!! 2 Buff Orps (was 3), 3 Silver Laced Wynodettes, 5 Austrolops, 3 Blue Silkies. We split the order with our neighbors who will take home 3 Rhode Island Reds, 3 New Hampshire Reds & 2 Barred Rocks. Our little flock of babies will eventually join our other 2 Silkies, 2 EE's, a gypsy- faced Brown Red Old English bantam plus 1 Silkie Rooster. We have almost finished the new, much larger coop & can't wait to see them all running around outside together this spring!

Quick question...I ordered from McMurray Hatchery. I have read some bad reviews about chicks DOA. Should I be expecting dead chicks?

I ordered 32 chicks from McMurray last week, 15 of them were silkies and frizzles, on arrival only 2 of my silkies and 1 of my frizzles survived ;(
all of my buff Orpingtons, barred rocks, columbian Wyandottes, and Rhode Island reds were fine and are currently thriving including the 2 surviving silkies and 1 frizzle. I think the trip this time of year is really hard on silkies. Also, I live in Alaska. I've had great customer service from McMurray, and they gave me a credit which I used to order some more standard chicks that should be here tomorrow. Hopefully they will all be healthy and peeping for every bad report I read on McMurray, I hear a good one... I think it all comes down to USPS and how gentle and quick they are! Good luck to you!

Chick Tip for new chicken parents ;-) Most hatcheries will identify the different breeds for you if you ask, they will mark them on their heads or bellys and give you and identification sheet telling what's what. McMurray did this for us when we ordered 38 chicks, 11 different breeds

That one looks alot like the banty I got from TSC except darker, mine is lighter.! Here is a pic of mine! Anyone know what kind it is if it's not the same?
