What exactly is a button quail compared to a coturnix? How do I know which kind I even have ?

Button quail are quite small, and usually very skittish. Coturnixies on the other hand are larger and more docile. Buttons also lay tiny olive-green eggs and coturnixes lay white with brown splodges (although mine lay the occasional blue or white).

Post a picture of yours I'll tell you which you have.

I have five buttons currently. Rusty, Rosy, TNT, Creeper and Dyanamite.
Heres some pics:

The lovely brown(or Wild Dilute as I call it) is Creeper and the bluish(or wild type) one is Rusty. I was taking some comparison shots for a thread I am in.

Rusty and Rosy are VERY skittish as I rescued them from a pet shop that wasn't caring properly for them. The other three I hand raised, getting them from a breeder. Hoping for chicks in spring!(It's late Fall here)

Okay those are Coturnix, If you don't already know the genders or colour mutations I'll tell you:
Pic 1. Female with wild type colouration
Pic 2. Texas A&M (You can't visually sex with this one)
Pic 3. Female Golden Italian
Pic 4. Not sure of gender, but it is a Tibetian
Number 2 and 4 are males. Junior and cricket. Thank you!
