I just hatched 9 brown leghorn rosecombs under a broody,she was broody for the last 3 months,just wouldnt give up,so i found some fertile eggs for her and she held in for the duration.She is a bantam-standard mix of some sort,kinda looks like a brown leghorn her self?started with 12 eggs,3 were duds when i broke them after the others hatched.Now the thing is what do i do with all these chickens???

I've got 12 Hyline Silver in the incubator. Day 4. 10 look like they have embryos to me.

Sounds like a good plan, one I hadn't thought of.. My chicks go from the incubator to an in house brooder for 3 days then out to the porch brooder for 2 weeks.. Then the grow out pen which is in the same area the chickens free range then from there to the finishing pen which is next to the main coop... I hadn't thought of doing it any other way but like the way you describe the bio security..

I have 3 Grandsons, the youngest being only one but of the other 2 Elijah (the four year old) is the most into our little farm here, He once told me that when he grows up and has his farm Me and his Poppy have to live with him so I can take care of his chickens...  I told my Husband, our future is secure

  On another note.. been out working the property all day in anticipation of a large BBQ were hosting tomorrow for our Daughters 24th Birthday.. When I came in a bit ago I discovered that in my absence we have had a Turkey explosion... 7 out, one zipping two more piped...  If they all hatch this will be my best hatch rate to date...95% 

Hope that your party today is a success!! We had a cookout at my mom's yesterday, and my grandpa brought a frame thing he made for my mom's truck..he likes tinkering and building and it's about all his mind can handle these days. As soon as I saw the frame I thought 'chicken pen', so he's building me a couple. My son is trying to convince my mom that she needs a couple chickens..I sold her on SweetPDZ yesterday and she doesn't even have any animals she could use it for..lol..
My daughter will be the one that moves out of state for some high profile career in fashion or something..my son is the one that will make a life out of farming like his mama .
That's what I LOVE about BYC. .so many good people and so many ideas to share.. I'm on a heritage RIR thread and a very sweet woman has been sharing her incubator and brooder set up with me, so I shared my heating pad hen and although she's been brooding for years , she liked the idea. I recommend it to everyone of course..lol..
I did get the hatcher sterilized after almost an hour of working to get it clean..those ruptured yolks are nothing to play around with..between that and the one chick that I had to put down bc of the bloody lump, my hatcher was awful..I honestly didn't think it was coming clean. My paint Silkies are due to go to the hatcher tomorrow and then I have 2 GL/Tolbunt splits that were the only starts out of 8 eggs and they will move to the hatcher next week if they make it that long (Im not holding my breath)..but after that I have a few of my girls in there and my peafowl that are on Day 2..my second group of Tolbunts ship tomorrow..if I actually find any Gold Laced Polish eggs I will be buying those and I have plans for some chocolate Silkies and heritage RIR then hopefully I'll be done for the year..yeah right..lol

Oh..and CONGRATULATIONS on the turkeys!! That's a great hatch no matter what ! It's so much easier on you if you're busy on hatching day..me, I will cancel plans so I can watch "hatcher tv" come hatching day

My Silkie went broody now, she's only a few days in, and has 8 eggs, I tried to set her with 6, but she's managed to get the 8. She hatched one out of eight last year, so I'm hoping for a better hatch this time, but she chose the exact same place. She is not sitting on any of her own eggs, as she abandoned that nest, after a day and started collecting again, from other hens.

The duck eggs in my bator look to be doing good, I've got them laying down, as they are just about full, just a bit on the pointy end of the egg

I'm so excited!! I'm a first timer when it comes to hatching and raising my own chicks and today I just put in a dozen chicken eggs in my bator with a dozen day 7 turkey eggs so they'll all hatch at the same time!!!! I really hope everything works out, our hygrometer broke a couple days in so we're driving blind until the new ones we ordered come in. It's an awesome feeling hatching your own chicks but I do wish they would hurry up!!

If you have a mercury thermometer, you can use a hollow shoe string ...cut the tip off, slide it up over the mercury bulb and then put the other end in a water source (make sure the entire string is wet ) and you want the temp to read between 82-88°F
