Who else is getting chicks tomorrow at TSC??

I am tempted but am leery about getting chicks from tsc.

the particular way they do it makes me wonder how much disease the babies will come in contact with. the later in the season we get, the longer the chicks will stay in the store bins and be exposed to ???????????????

I'm not sure i want to take that risk.

well at my TSC; they've already went through two orders and they just got them in yesterday and today...(sorry they have 20 left at 3pm today..and they started with 50 this a/m)

I have to say, they really stepped up for me today. One hour after bringing them home, one of the black orphingtons died and two more were acting funny. I think the little buggers must have gotten too chilled on the way home because they were fine and spunky in the store. I called the store when I found that one dead. They told me to come back to the store and GAVE me 3 (or the option for return money on 3) to replace the one that died and if the other 2 didn't make it, I didn't have to come back (and he said for my trouble). The 2 that were acting funny actually ended up perking up.

The tetratints have done great! They seem very hardy like the RIR I picked up on Tuesday.

I always hound them like crazy when they start announcing chick days and get to the store a few minutes after they get back from the post office. I don't always get the selection I want because I'm there buying the stock in the first few shipments and that usually contains the more readily available selection.

I paid a visit to TSC today, "just to look". They had literally just brought the chicks in and put them in the bins. I was only going to get 4 (the guy at mine said there is no minimum purchase) but my SO wanted more. We came home with 12. lol

I'm so new to the site, I can't figure out how. If you tell me how, I will surely post pics. I put them on my facebook page earlier. I've had more comments about them than I can keep up with LOL!

We went to TSC yesterday to get a divider panel for the pen. I seen those baby chicks and went crazy. My husband was pulling me in the other direction. But...luckily the store guy asked me if I knew what breeds they were. I was so excited cause I could tell him he had comets, BO's and americana chipmunk chicks. YES, being on byc has taught me a lot. Nope I still couldn't buy none, but thats because I have 10 polish and 10 sultans on the way next week.

If I may ask, What is a good breed to get for egg production? I have two black bearded silkies now but I am looking for a larger breed now. We use the chickens for eggs and organic pest control, not to mention the fantastic manure on our 6 acre organic farm.
