Who else is getting SNOW?!

It's SNOW'N and BLOW'N here! I hope my husband can get home safely! We're on top of a hill-WAY UP! We are having spaghetti and meatballs for supper in front of the wood stove.

Seeing these posts made me think of something... One year, after LOTS of snow and kids getting stir crazy, we sent the them out in their old snowsuits with their super soakers full of warmish water, with food coloring in it. We let them each mix up their own gallon jug of water, once the gallon was gone that was supposed to be IT, but they had so much fun we let em get away with one more, then I think one more after that.

They were supposed to only spray the snow, and not buildings or each other, but some accidents [heh, yeah right] and some tears happened, though they mostly managed to do ok.

Yes, the super soakers froze up, and yes, they got cold and soggy, but they wore themselves out and had a blast without major frostbite or turning each other blue or green.

On a positive note, I think I figured out why some of the guys have the yellow stuff near their nostrils. I switched to a chick mash that a local grain elevator makes (there are two I've gone to now... the other one is the one with the meds). I've seen warnings that mash can be quite messy. This stuff is quite yellow too, and I've seen it get crusted on their beaks after meals. If they are breathing while they have their faces crammed into the feeder, maybe the moisture from the warm air they're exhaling is causing their nostrils to be moist, and when they inhale, dust from the mash collects on the wet moist skin. I suppose that could make them sneeze then too. Because they are acting normal, and if anything, are getting a lot more active. The roos have started their pecking order sparring... that's not a pretty sight. I do have a problem roo I'm going to have to rehome as he's too young to cull for a meal, but he is going around starting fights with and chasing all of the other males, and even some of the females.

Hope you are all safe out there! We did errands and got home just before the storm hit. We've got about 10-12 inches out there but I haven't ventured out to measure. I'm headed that way now. The chickens and ducks are all still inside the coop. Last night the ducks and only half the chickens went in the coop. The others didn't walk on the snow. The coop is big enough that if they're under it in the middle you can't reach them! It took DH and I half an hour to urge them out with a rake and a pole. My 6 year old would then scoop them up and carry them into the coop. I think I'm leaving them IN today!

Don't know what breed she is but she loves the snow.... and pine trees. Unfortunately for our xmas tree.
