I'd put a paper towel or something down so that it wouldn't drag on the wire. I dunno about wiping it too much because it could affect his intestines....Good luck!

One still has not hatched!!!!!
It has pipped and is talking, I can see it's beak.

HELP!!!!! I want to "help" so bad...first ones have been in there around 20 hours now.

I learned this lesson the hard way. Natural selection is a *itch somtimes. Some people help and it all works out, some people help and it turns out to be a worse heartache, which is what happened to me.

I'm rooting for the chick to make it out fast.

I had one that was just a pip for 24 hrs and then in 1/2 hr it was out just like that!​

ok, as a Medic, I thought ....paper towel...wont it stick, know a patients wound sticks to the gauze..ok these people know chickens...running to do it, and did now Im reading and Im hitting my head on the computer...

so far 4 chicks with the hen inside the 'barn' (quonset hut) by the hay storage, and one pip with the one in the 4x4x4 apple bin (sposed to be a goats shelter) outside.
It seems awful dry out there... should I mist the nest?

PS. How do y'all keep crows away from free ranged babies? These hens always lose a few of their stealth hatched cross bred babies, but these are MY babies!

2tx: Vaseline gauze, or xeroform ? Or saline soaked 4x4's (re-soak so it can't stick)?

Don't use paper towel or gauze - makes a nasty wet-dry bandage... yanks stuff off when you remove it not good when you're talking intestines...

Something that doesn't adhere works, saran wrap, the medical bandages meant to not stick, that kind of thing, then gauze/tape/wrap to hold it.
