Who else is setting... I wanna see pics!

That's pretty good! I hope you get them all to hatch!

I don't think anyone has gotten 100% hatch on the eggs, though some have gotten close. I don't have peafowl yet, but my son keeps begging me....maybe next year

ETA: The guineas have been weird lately, I only have one hen, so I don't see how some of them can not be fertile. I have some in the bator that were not very old when I set them and some are totally clear.

Well, one guinea egg is obviously clear and the other has veining. Still no movement, but they have darker shells & also a longer incubation period, so I'm not worried. I assumed the guinea eggs were "touchier" like the pea eggs.
I'm mostly excited about the ?duck? eggs. They don't look quite the same as the chicken eggs, so I'm really hoping.
The quail will be just plain fun. You'll have to check in after the hatch so you can tell me what colors you think they are.

That should be interesting!

I'm pretty good on the coturnix colors, but I could use some work with the buttons! I don't recognize 'mixed' button colors very well, but I'll try!

How do you manage to candle button eggs?
All I can tell on my bigger speckled eggs is clear or not....

Congratulations on all the growing ones. Sorry about the peas and the bator spike.

Just to make sure that I have it right. I've had a few eggs where all of a sudden the air cell doesn't hold it's circular shape and where it isn't holding it looks like water is sloshing around and the little 'chick starter' is moving very freely in the watery part. I can't seen heart beats in these eggs. Do they still have any chance or does the watery part signify a problem. I know that in my life when I've cracked a rotten egg by mistake the insides were like stink water so I wondered if these eggs were rotting inside... any insights?

Paganbird I also have coturnix eggs due to hatch this week (13 of them)

I take them out tomorrow and I guess any time after that (I was planning on Thursday) they might hatch.

farrier! - With the button eggs, I just make a ring over the flashlight with my hand and candle away! I can see an embryo moving in my smallest egg. If I found out how to do it, I would video it & put it on here, but I'm not sure how.
If I feel like playing around with it, I'll give it a try tonight.

wishiwasjane - Do your eggs with tremulous air cells have veining? If they are clear, pitch them. If they have veining, keep them in to see if they develop further. Mine are on day 10, so I can see movement, but I also dont "try" to see too much... the air cell damage makes me nervous & I don't want to handle those eggs any more than I have to.
I have a couple with air cells that will go down the entire side of the egg if I tip them. I even have one with a detached air cell... bubbles along the "rim." They all have live chicks... right now. I don't expect all to make it to hatch... and not all will live after hatching, I expect.
I have them in the auto turner. Some people say that TAC eggs should be kept still, or tipped very little, but I just put them in with the rest. We'll see how it turns out.
As for the buttons... I'm planning to put mine in the hatcher tomorrow, too. Looks like we'll be hatching together. We'll have to see who gets a button first!

I'm on day 11 with 22 coturnix eggs in the homemade 'bator. I candled them today to mark the sterile eggs and only 3 are! The other 19 appear to have growing babies in them at this point in time.

It's fun to start a thread, as this one was done, based on when you set the eggs instead of when they will hatch...it's been great fun to read through all the posts on this 23 page beast of a thread and see all the differences between variety of birds incubated. Thanks!
