This is a question for anyone who has hatched ducks... or shelley (who sent me the ?duck? eggs):
I candled the chicken eggs tonight. They go into the hatcher tomorrow & I wanted to see how they were doing. I also candled the ?duck? and guinea eggs.
When I was candling the ?duck? eggs, I could see a little foot. The thing is... it was not webbed... at least, not that I could see.
The ?duck? eggs would still have a week left, if they are duck eggs. Would I see a little not-webbed foot in a duck egg that has a week to go?
I just don't want to leave it in the turner if it's a chicken. I've decided to use the manual switch on the turner, so I can keep an eye out for pips in the ?duck? eggs, just in case.
I'm still hoping they are duck eggs. They both have a living, moving ?chick? in them! The guinea egg has movment visible, too.
I'm putting all 9 chicken eggs in the hatcher tomorrow morning. I saw movement in 8 of them. The last one, I may have lost. It has great veining, but no movement & seems to have a bit too much "room" left in it. I'm not sure why the veining still looks so good, if it is gone, but I'm putting it in the hatcher anyway. It is the "crushed" green EE egg.

They are all going into a carton. The air cells are badly damaged & a couple of them still appear "detached." It looks like fluid runs into the normal air cell area when the egg is tipped. I'm hoping the cartons will keep the chicks from drowning in fluid when they pip. It's not a humidity issue, either... the eggs appeared that way when I set them. Only about 3 "corrected" themselves... and not totally, either.
Wish my poor little USPS-damaged chicks luck! They're probably going to need it.

sethsleader - the other eggs should be fine. Hearing another chick encourages the ones that haven't hatched yet.

I've only hatched ducks once and never distinctly saw a foot. Soooo I can't answer your question Paganbird. I will say the ducks were groggy and wobbly longer than chickens after they hatched.

They are SOOOO cute though - it is to make up for their messiness. Very stinky compared to chickens.
