Who else is waiting for that first egg?

Thanks everyone for putting my mind at ease. Really appreciate everyone's thoughts and suggestions.

My two laying Barred Rocks have a system going on....Pockey goes first (about 8 a.m.), while Pojo paces about, clucking, waiting her turn. We have to nest boxes but they both use the same one....so I have to be on my feet to get the first egg in the morning, because Pojo will lay right on top of it. Dumb buzzard...

Do they seem to like the pine more than the wheat straw? I thought about buying some but then didn't. I thought it wouldn't be as "comfortable" and "cushy" as wheat straw is!

Also, do you have to worry about bugs/ants more than with wheat straw? I'm in NC so I'm trying to find things that aren't going to attract bugs/creepy crawlies any more than they already are.

Well, one of my coops has straw in the coop and pine in the nest boxes, but my other just has straw throughout. They all seem to like either just fine. They do seem to pull a few pieces of straw in on top of the pine, but in my opinion the pine seems softer. Maybe its the long stringy vs. chunks. I don't know lol

I use PDZ under my straw and don't seem to have much problem with bugs... or maybe they eat them before I see them!

Yeah it finally happened!!! My husband wanted to start up the bbq, but had to tell him to cool his coals. LOL! Easter Egger 23 weeks and 4 days old.

My first egg from my RIR bantam. All of my others have been laying for weeks but we have been patiently waiting for the Banties to start!

Lovely lovely lovely!!! Congrats!

Thats a huge bantam egg, yikes!! Aren't RIR supposed to lay brown eggs?
It's kind of a cream color, somewhere between very light brown and very light pink. Not as brown as I thought but it's ok by me. I have four other brown egg layers, as well as a blue and a green, so it will just add some more color to the egg box!
