Who gets the alcohol, you or the bird?

I wish you luck! Bourbon or beer, bourbon or beer, hmmmm...I think I'd start with the beer then maybe a chaser of bourbon?

I think a cheaper method of saying thanks to your birds, would to give a very nice treat the day before, then just give them a calm fast death - without the liquor. If they go fast it should be fine..
And then you can say a thanks to your chosen diety, if you have one, or the bird itself.
I often say thank you to my birds.

But I do commend you for giving that thanks to your future food, its a good thing to do.

Drink the alcohol yourself. It will do you more good than the birds. As long as the death is fast the bird doesn't have time to tense up or be "worried."

Always important to thank our food for it's sacrifice. A little hard to do when you pick it up at the local grocer.

Seriously. I have been doing a lot of soul searching about what is the best way to be a meat eater. If I am going to keep doing it, I better be willing to look the facts straight in the eye. If I can't do that, I better start liking beans and tofu a lot more.

I must admit, I am rethinking pork a lot. Even though it is my favorite. Pigs are just too smart and human like in their physiology.

hadnt thought about booze for birds...

but we all did whiskey shots on the tailgate when we dressed the pigs last fall!

the ceremony we do is a prayer of thanksgiving for a full harvest, trusting in 'the way of things,' and for ...gulp... courage.

good luck!

I do agree, it seems they can often bond a lot more with someone too. Its hard for me to see them go.

Either way

Yeah. It is one of the reasons for the joking. I am full of a lot of dark humor about this. But ultimately, I want this to be as good of an experience for them and me as is possible under the circumstances.

I have one little Black and now gray (Used to be black and white) that I am praying is my Australorp hen that I ordered. He/She comes running the door of the pen and waits to be touched already at 3 weeks.

Today one of the other pooped on her and when he/she realized it she let out a scream and came running to have me wipe it off. I am really hoping for a girl and not a persnickety roo.
