(this is not part of the egglaying question/ so it is not a douple post)

Does anyone have a good grasp on how a sex link cross is formed? I know what the common sexlink crosses are like the RIR/RIW, but I would like someone who is very knowledgeable on the actual genetics of this.

Thanks

Been breeding sex link colors in birds for years, cockatiels, parakeets, peafowls, and pigeons.

Just a few facts the males can carry a sex link color, females can NOT carry sex link colors hidden.

Okay, cool! I was wondering if white leghorns and any color of Ameraucana, that would create a sexlink result?

I know there are certain genes, but I don't quite understand the genetics to figure it out for myself.

The red color is a sexlink color. So if you have a red rooster Ameraucana cross with white hen = red or golden hens and white rooster chicks. the red will need to be from pure reds.

Should be able to cross a NH or RIR rooster with a pure white Ameraucana hen=same red pullets and white rooster.

I know that some people use the BBR colored EE cocks with barred hens or silver based hens and get sexlinks. You can use BBR/light brown cocks on sexlink barred hens or silver hens (silver leghorn type) or some others and get sexlinks too.

Okay! Thanks a ton! I have only a slight grasp on sexlink genetics when it comes to chickens. I know how they work, I just didn't know the specifics of the breeds I was wanting to work with and/or their colors.

Thanks everyone!

Right white is not, but albino is. White can also mask a color. I have white peacocks that mask the sexlink color peach.

Also the hen used to produce chicks you can sex at day old are not sexlink colors, Only the Males.

I understand that. So I guess the question is, do White/Production Leghorns have the silver?
