I have a very large pond, at least 1 acre.

I was thinking, I might get a few Geese. They are sold st. run, so do you eat the males? Are they like roo's where you would only want one male per so many females?

So, who has ate a goose, do they taste like chicken?

I went to the supermart and they had a couple for sale. $38.00 for less than an 8 pound goose, that cant be right!

So I didnt buy it and still dont know what they taste like.

Goose is VERY good. Ever heard of people having a "Christmas Goose"? Roasted like a turkey.

My husband goose hunts and with the wild geese I cook the breast int he pressure cooker then slice it and batter it and fry it quick to a golden brown.

Wonderful dark meat.

That's what we had for Christmas was goose. An embden that we raised. I know you can have issues with to many males. Sometimes they will spend more time fighting than mating and it reduces fertility. But I've always gotten mine in pairs so I'm not 100% positive.

Oh yes goose meat is VERY good....all dark

I have only had wild goose and it is great! Oddly it tastes like roast beef. i have cooked whole wild goose in a cooking bag, or done parts and braised it. (cooked for long time in liquid_) this is more for wild than domestic--b/c youdon't know the age of the wild goose when it was shot. I would assume that domestic goose harvested at the proper age would be GREAT!

Ok, I'll added some to my MM order. I'm driving over 4 hours each way to pick up my order of chicks. I have heard a few bad things about the delivery of chicks this time of year.

Has anyone ever raised geese?
