Have you tried muscovy? They have much leaner meat. Not so much fat and grease to em....I cook ours in the slow cooker and it dissapears FAST around our house!

it was supermarket duck. I live next to a bunch of farms. I will start asking around and hopefully someone might have muscovy

Geese are very easy to raise and with handling will become very tame and spoiled! We recently just sent ours to live on a farm with some friends but we loved every minute of having them.

The embdens are really nice....We hatched one of their babies before we sent them to the farm and the baby is spoiled. I do suggest though that i fyou want them for eating that you don't make them pets. I find geese to very personable! The one we raised to eat we didn't socialize with much.

That part is going to be hard for me. I baby talk to my chickens, they prick up there heads and stare at me. Untill now I thought they liked it, but maybe they think, I crazy.

So what kind of shed did your sleep in, I have a 6 stall horse barn and I have no horse's. Do they sleep on the floor?

Goose makes the best meal for Christmas or Thanksgiving! Just remember that they have a lot more fat so to let it drain while cooking, make sure you put a rack in the bottom of the pan and poke a couple holes under the wings and legs so the fat will drain.

Ok, this may be a stupid question, nobody laugh! I've never been able to tell a male from a female goose, is there any simple answer? Other than waiting for one to, er, grab, the other?
