I checked the links that @KikisGirls posted and I have no idea if that's where TSC gets theirs (but thanks for the links!). I do remember the sign on the chick bin listed the breeds crossed but I didn't pay enough attention to remember exactly what was on it. There were like 4 breeds listed though as I recall.

My two look pretty much the same except one is a bit darker buff than the other and one is larger than the other. I bought mine out of a straight run shipment and then a couple months later, TSC had another batch for sale that said they were sexed pullets.

If I get more next spring I will ask them which hatchery and see if they will tell me.

While they grow super fast and were without a doubt the biggest chicks in the brooder, they did not pick on the smaller chicks and I added chicks to the flock over a 3 week period so the last two I added were teeny tiny barnvelders and the Dixie's towered over them but didn't harass them at all. So good temperament from my experience.

I would gladly add them to my flock again, if I were buying chicks. The only complaint that I had was their feather quality was not the best. A lot of roo wear, with broken wing feather shafts. Of course it didn't help that she was the roo's favorite gal. The best layers usually are!

I no longer have my roo but when I did, the two Dixie's were his favorite girls hands down! The 3 of them were always together and I started calling them the 3 amigos. The roo didn't show interest in any others in the flock. Granted the Dixie's were the first to start laying but a couple others had started laying before I rehomed him but he paid no attention to them.

I came to the conclusion he just really liked their large size and big, beautiful downy bums!
